Transforming lives, empowering communities

Scholarships

Providing scholarships for qualified students is important for the development of their futures as well the development of the community. Supplying the population with doctors, engineers, nurses, architects, and other qualified professionals increases the living standards, economic state, and provides the public with educated individuals able to apply their skills to better the current situation.

Since 1986, UPA’s Scholarship Program has helped nearly 2,000 qualified students realize their dreams of higher education, providing tuition funds for study at local universities. The financial means of many individuals in Palestine is weak and cannot sustain attending University. UPA supports students in a range of fields who can give back to their community and to their nation.

UPA believes in building independence, not only for each Palestinian, but also for the society as a whole, and therefore we support strengthening local institutions whenever possible.  Therefore, UPA grants scholarships to Palestinian students pursuing Bachelors or Masters Degrees enrolled in Palestinian universities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip only.

Students must meet the following list of criteria in order to be considered for a scholarship:

  • Be a Palestinian citizen.
  • Be currently enrolled in and have completed at least one semester at a university that is (a) located in the West Bank or Gaza Strip and (b) participates in the UPA scholarship program (the full list of participating universities can be found on the application form).
  • Have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 80%.
  • Complete the online application in English.
  • Write an essay (written in English or Arabic) that explains (a) why you chose your field of study and (b) how you plan to use your education to improve Palestinian society.
  • Have a professor provide an academic and personal evaluation.

This program directly benefits the recipient students and indirectly benefits all the future contacts of those students resulting in an ever-widening ripple effect.
